Ten Feet High Wake and Skate Series - August

The penultimate Ten Feet High event was a phenomenal success and attracted riders not only from all over the country, but boat and cable riders alike. There was a heavy "northern monkey" prescence here in Sheffield and pro cable riders Jonty Green and Kieran Taheny made it up from "down south" to ride. Jonty showed the crowd how to ride this season's new Hyperlite obstacle not with just a transfer from the box to A-frame but with a transfer wall-ride - box - A-frame!.

As ever the rookies was hotly contested by local groms. Calum Land took 1st, landing loads of cable inverts inluding raley, roll to revert, and a front to rev. Sam Cordery pulled out a really styly run showing superb skills with spins and obstacles and bettered his podium position in July, placing 2nd. George Rowling followed in 3rd with some big moves off the kicker including a Whirlybird and a 720 wildcard.

In the Intermediates Alex Newman took 1st with a stylish well composed run featuring switch and blind cable tricks. Alex was followed in 2nd by Mike Burt and in third the judges just couldn't seperate Phil Lee and Lewis Hurst (without causing a punch up!) and so finally located some more prizes and gave them each joint 3rd.

In the Pro event Jonty Green and Kieran Taheny upped the ante, taking the podium 1 and 2. Jonty just stood up a double s-bend to blind as a wild card and Kieran landed a toeside S-mobe for his - the judges believe this might be a 1st in the world (anyone who knows more let us know!). local rider Simon Chapell held onto 3rd Spot despite serious competition and a shoulder dislocation whilst landing a front mobe for his wild card.

The standard of riding in the ladies gets better and better each event, This time it was fought between two riders consistently landing cable inverts, Sophie Cordery and British Team member Liu Batchelor. Sophie that took no1 spot, with a well composed run of both cable inverts and solid styly obstacle tricks. Liu took 2nd and in 3rd place BUK rider Ellie Taylor.

In the wakeskate event Local rider Rob Grainger retained the title and took 1st with a run including shuvvit 180 off the box and a 3 shuv on the water, Rob was closely followed by Alexander Jones and in third Matt Crowhurst, who after the event tried the A-Frame on a skate!, Matt narrowly missed riding away, instead getting a "negative transfer" onto the box at the last minute. Matt is no stranger to our new Hyperlite obstacle and was the first wakeboarder to stick a transfer onto the A-Frame earlier this year.

Thanks to BUK for donating £200 and clothing prizes for the "Big Air". Matt Price took 1st place (and the cash!) with a toeside 9, comentator James Chapell took 2nd with a huge Front roll and and the legend that is "Wee Man" (Jordan Burkin) landed the biggest roll to revert we think he has ever thrown! (and took 3rd).

The after party was awesome. Prizegiving was followed by Aussie Nick's leaving do and Dan Jordan and Big Paul's Birthday celebrations. On the decks Giles and Nick played until the early hours and at the end of the set [last orders] there could have been a riot!, people pleaded for "one more"....Giles, Nick and Andy went from hero to zero. Thanks to Philly and Scottish Stu for the impromptu guitar and vocals. As always many many thanks to our sponsors Relentless Energy (thanks to Matt Crowhurst from Relentless for coming down to support this event), Fox, Reef, Hyperlite, Mastercraft, Source, Extreme Gene, O'Shea, Makro and new sponsors O'Neill and BUK. See you for the last event of the season on the 13th September - the FINAL!!! £1000 pro overall prize up for grabs and as usual more prizes on the night.
